3 Simple Ways to Elevate Your Content

Whether you're already posting on your socials regularly or you’re just starting, having the right tools can significantly impact the quality of your content and make it easier to produce, saving you time and headaches.

In this article, we’ll explore 3 things that not only streamline your workflow but also add that extra flair to keep your audience engaged.

CAPTURE CLEAR AUDIO

You’ve got your video topics and scripts prepared, but you don’t want to forget about 2 of the most important things: having clear Audio and Good Lighting. It doesn’t matter if you have the most expensive camera or if you’re covering an important topic - if your audio is bad, people won’t pay attention.

When you’re recording:

  • Try to record in a quiet space.

  • If you add background music, make sure you adjust levels of the music to be lower than your voice. (Instagram and TikTok has built in controls to adjust the levels). Also, choose music that don’t have lyrics so the focus will stay on you.

  • Use External Microphones. The built in mics on our devices have come a long way but they still have their limitations and depending on the room you’re recording in, it can just sound very hollow or echo-y.

A good mic system can really bring your videos closer to a professional level. My most used and personal favorite microphone is the Rode Wireless Go II Microphone System . What’s great about it is you can connect it to either a phone or a camera. The set comes with 2 transmitters which is great for the times when you’re recording with an extra person. You can also attach a lav mic to it so it can be clipped discreetly to your clothing while getting it close to your mouth to record clean audio.

Capturing clean audio while recording also saves you time in editing by not having to fix the sound in post.

UTILIZE GOOD LIGHTING

The second pillar of a good video is having good lighting. Well-lit subjects are more engaging and easier to focus on, facilitating better viewer comprehension. Moreover, adequate lighting minimizes unwanted shadows and reduces visual noise, resulting in a more professional and polished look.

If you’re lacking in lighting equipment due to budget or you’re out at a property or venue, simply look for a window to get even light on your face. Overhead lighting can cause shadows around your eyes.

If you want a light weight and portable option for equipment, you can consider products like the LumeCube Mobile Creator Kit or these small magnetic light wands - just pop em on a fridge, turn them on and you’re ready to go.

MAKE A PLAN

The final tip to elevate your content is to make a plan. If you always rely on just posting on the fly, you’ll have little direction as to what to create, when to make it, and how to shoot. Planning your content gives you a clear roadmap to follow, contributes to efficient time management, and allows you to more effectively reach your target audience.

One of my favorite apps to use is Milanote. It allows you to easily organize your thoughts, add pictures for inspiration, and more. You create separate boards for enhanced organization.

I hope these tips help you on your next content creation session. If you still need an extra hand, I would love the opportunity to help you connect with your audience through a professional content day shoot tailored to your needs and budget. Please reach out for a free consultation.
